Braces / Orthodontics

Orthodontic Treatment is a way of correcting the crowded or crooked teeth by straightening or aligningthem in jaw in order to improve bite relationship, physical appearance and smile of the person, as well as functioning of his / her teeth. The treatment also aims at improving the long term health of the teeth, gums and jaw joints by properly spreading the biting pressure over all teeth and correcting the improper bite.

Why should a person have orthodontic treatment?

  • a) Many people have crooked or crowded teeth, spaces between the teeth, excessive wearing of teeth. These problems adversely affect their physical appearance, smile and self-confidence. Orthodontic treatment can affectively solve these problems.
  • b) In some individuals, the upper front teeth can stick out and look ugly. In addition to having poor bite, these ‘prominent’ teeth are more likely to get damaged. Orthodontic treatment can move them back into line and correct the improper bite.
  • c) TMJ, TMD & ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT. Many people suffer from common ailments such as persistent headaches, jaw pain, or shoulder pain, ringing in the ear and popping of the jaw. Others snore, grind their teeth or have limited jaw movement. Often the underlying cause of these symptoms is called TMJ (Tempromandibular Joint Syndrome) or TMD (Temporomandibular Disorder). This Syndrome or disorder often occurs when the teeth do not close together properly, resulting into under bites, overbites etc. The misalignment of the teeth causes the jaw muscles to strain, leading to pain or other symptoms throughout the head and neck area. TMJ or TMD is the jaw dysfunction, resulting from the inappropriate use of one’s jaw muscles. We at K.B. Dental Clinic advice advanced imaging techniques, such as CT and MRI scan to determine actual cause of problem leading to TMJ and TMD and decide on the treatment including orthodontic treatment accordingly.
