Preventive Dentistry
Preventive dental care is very important throughout life, regardless of age. By maintaining proper oral hygiene at home and going for regular check-ups to your dentist, you can keep your mouth healthy for many years to come. Below are a few simple ways to prevent building-up of plaque and cavities:
- Brush your teeth twice daily with a soft-bristled toothbrush. Use fluoridated toothpaste. Also brush the top surface of your tongue to remove any extra plaque-causing food particles, this will help keeping your breath fresh!
- At night use floss to clean between your teeth. Also use a mouthwash this will help in reducing Bacterial growth. Floss and mouthwash will help remove plaque and food particles from between teeth where toothbrush bristles cannot reach.
- Eat a balanced diet, and avoid extra-sugary treats at night especially before going to bed. Foods such as raw vegetables, plain yogurt, cheese, or fruits will help in keeping your smile healthy.
- Remember to schedule regular check-ups with your dentist every six months.
- If you play sports, ask your dentist about mouth-guards designed to protect your teeth from an injury.
